REAP and Georgia College are training hundreds of pre-service teachers in Structured Literacy with help from IDA-GA Education Grants. 2021-2022 is REAP’s third year training students at Georgia College. This program not only prepared future teachers, but led to Jones County working with REAP to train ALL their K-2 teachers district-wide!

REAP Founders Jen & Jeremy Rhett: their dyslexic kids inspired them to help 40,000 readers
They planned to train 1 teacher and ended up training more than 1,000
REAP was born out of a passion to help struggling readers. Jen and Jeremy Rhett are the parents of dyslexic children. They saw firsthand how their kids blossomed with the help of specially trained tutors. They knew that lots of kids struggle with reading for a variety of reasons. They also knew that most of these kids would never have a tutor, which means they would likely fall behind their peers. They would struggle to keep up in middle and high school, then struggle to find a good job.
“Structured Literacy changed our kids’ lives and we knew it could help other kids who might never learn to read otherwise.”
REAP is very excited to host the first meeting of The Reading League in Georgia! Whether you know a little or a lot about the Science of Reading, we encourage you to join us for this virtual event. We’ll hear about about improving literacy in Georgia students by embracing evidence-aligned reading instruction. The Reading League is committed to advancing “the Science of Reading” throughout Georgia so that all Georgia children can learn to read.
Please register by March 15th to reserve your spot at this virtual event.
Four decades of reading research have provided undeniable evidence about how children learn to read. This evidence has not made its way into most classrooms where many children are still failing to learn to read. These children can learn to read when we align reading instruction with the evidence. The Reading League’s mission is to advance the awareness, understanding, and use of evidence-aligned reading instruction. Join Laura Stewart as she shares the journey of The Reading League, the conceptual models which underscore the mission, and the exciting next steps to forming a Reading League chapter here in Georgia!
All children deserve to learn to read, and all teachers can learn to teach them.
